Making bagels and memories

This amazing pretzel recipe is from our friends The Millers and was incredibly easy for the children to help make with. End results was so amazing we had for evening treat and breakfast the next morning.

Pretzels
1.5 cups luke warm water
1 x tbl salt
1 x tbl sugar
7g instant yeast
4.5 cups plain flour
3 tbl oil (divided)
120g bicarbonate of soda
1 egg (beaten)
Sea salt flakesMix water, sugar and salt to combine. Add yeast and allow to rest for 5-10 minutes until mixture starts to foam. Add flour and 2 tbl of oil.
Mix and knead for 5-10 minutes until dough forms. It should spring back when poked lightly with finger.
Lightly oil bowl with remaining oil, add dough and cover with a clean tea towel. Leave in warm place for hour.
Preheat oven to 230C/450F. Cut dough into 8 pieces and roll each out into thin ropes. Loop and twist into pretzel shape (check youtube if you aren't sure how as many tutorials available).
Add bicarb to large pot of water, bring to rolling boil and add pretzels 2 at a time for 30 seconds each side. Drain on wire rack before placing on paper lined baking tray. Brush  with egg wash, sprinkle with sea salt and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with jam or blue cheese.
